۞ أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ قَادِرٌ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يَخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُمْ وَجَعَلَ لَهُمْ أَجَلًۭا لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهِ فَأَبَى ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ إِلَّا كُفُورًۭا

Saheeh International · EN

Do they not see that Allah, who created the heavens and earth, is [the one] Able to create the likes of them? And He has appointed for them a term, about which there is no doubt. But the wrongdoers refuse [anything] except disbelief.

Introduction

This is āyah 99 of Sūrat Al-Israa (The Night Journey), the 50th sūrah in the traditional order of revelation. It was revealed in the Meccan period and sits within Juzʾ 15. Meccan verses tend to address faith, the oneness of God, and the hereafter.

That is their recompense, because they denied Our Ayat and said: "When we are bones and fragments, shall we really be raised up as a new creation? (98)See they not that Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth, is able to create the like of them. And He has decreed for them an appointed term, whereof there is no doubt. But the wrongdoers refuse but disbelief (99) Allah says: This punishment, being resurrected blind, dumb and deaf, is what they deserve, because they disbelieved, بِآيَاتِنَا (Our Ayat), i.e., Our proof and evidence, and did not think that the resurrection could ever happen.' وَقَالُوا أَإِذَا كُنَّا عِظَامًا وَرُفَاتًا (and said: "When we are bones and fragments...") meaning, when we have disintegrated and our bodies have rotted away, أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ خَلْقًا جَدِيدًا (shall we really be raised up as a new creation?) meaning, after we have disintegrated a…
