Introduction

This is āyah 54 of Sūrat Al-Muddaththir (The Cloaked One), the 4th sūrah in the traditional order of revelation. It was revealed in the Meccan period and sits within Juzʾ 29. Meccan verses tend to address faith, the oneness of God, and the hereafter.

Every person is a pledge for what he has earned (38)Except those on the Right (39)In Gardens they will ask one another (40)About criminals (and they will say to them)(41)"What has caused you to enter Hell?
