Introduction

This is āyah 34 of Sūrat Al-Ma'aarij (The Ascending Stairways), the 79th sūrah in the traditional order of revelation. It was revealed in the Meccan period and sits within Juzʾ 29. Meccan verses tend to address faith, the oneness of God, and the hereafter.

This introduction is a starting point — the community and Bilal will enrich it over time.

Verily, man was created very impatient (19)Apprehensive when evil touches him (20)And suppressive when good touches him (21)Except those who are devoted to Salah (22)Those who with their Salah are Da'imun (23)And those in whose wealth there is a recognized right (24)For the one who asks, and for the deprived (25)And those who believe in the Day of Recompense (26)And those who fear the torment of their Lord (27)Verily, the torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure (28)And those who guard their private part (chastity)(29)Except from their wives or their right hand possessions – for (then) they are not blameworthy (30)But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers (31)And those who keep their trusts and covenants (32)And those who stand firm in their testimonies (33)And those who are with their Salah, Yuhafizun (34)Such shall dwell in the Gardens…
