Introduction

This is āyah 163 of Sūrat As-Saaffaat (Those who set the Ranks), the 56th sūrah in the traditional order of revelation. It was revealed in the Meccan period and sits within Juzʾ 23. Meccan verses tend to address faith, the oneness of God, and the hereafter.

So, verily you and those whom you worshi (161)Cannot lead astray (162)Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell (163)And there is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (164)And verily, we (angels), we stand in rows (165)And verily, we (angels) indeed are those who glorify (166)And indeed they used to say (167)"If we had a reminder as had the men of old, (168)"We would have indeed been the chosen servants of Allah!
