Introduction

This is āyah 124 of Sūrat As-Saaffaat (Those who set the Ranks), the 56th sūrah in the traditional order of revelation. It was revealed in the Meccan period and sits within Juzʾ 23. Meccan verses tend to address faith, the oneness of God, and the hereafter.

And verily, Ilyas was one of the Messengers (123)When he said to his people: "Will you not have Taqwa? (124)"Will you call upon 'Ba'l and forsake the Best of creators (125)Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?
