Introduction

This is āyah 19 of Sūrat As-Saaffaat (Those who set the Ranks), the 56th sūrah in the traditional order of revelation. It was revealed in the Meccan period and sits within Juzʾ 23. Meccan verses tend to address faith, the oneness of God, and the hereafter.

Then ask them: "Are they harder to create, or those whom We have created?" Verily, We created them of a sticky clay (11)Nay, you wondered while they mock (12)And when they are reminded, they pay no attention (13)And when they see an Ayah (a sign) from Allah, they mock at it (14)And they say: "This is nothing but evident magic!
