Introduction

This is āyah 10 of Sūrat As-Saaffaat (Those who set the Ranks), the 56th sūrah in the traditional order of revelation. It was revealed in the Meccan period and sits within Juzʾ 23. Meccan verses tend to address faith, the oneness of God, and the hereafter.

This introduction is a starting point — the community and Bilal will enrich it over time.

Hafiz Ibn Kathir

Verily, We have adorned the near heaven with the stars (6)And to guard against every rebellious Shaytan (7)They cannot listen to the higher group for they are pelted from every side (8)Outcast, and theirs is a constant torment (9)Except such as snatch away something by stealing, and they are pursued by a flaming fire of piercing brightness (10) The Adornment and Protection of the Heaven comes from Allah Allah tells us that He has adorned the lowest heaven with the heavenly bodies for those among the people of the earth who look at it. The stars and planets in the sky give light to the people of earth, as Allah says: وَلَقَدْ زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِمَصَابِيحَ وَجَعَلْنَاهَا رُجُومًا لِلشَّيَاطِينِ ۖ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابَ السَّعِيرِ (And indeed We have adorned the nearest heaven with lamps, and We have made such lamps (as) missiles to drive away the Shayatin, and have…
